Question

How is neonatal jaundice treated? My child is half a month old and the jaundice condition is severe. The elders at home say it will fade away on its own, but it seems to have not yet subsided. I have no experience and hope to receive professional advice.

Answer

If the neonate is breastfeeding normally and in good spirits, home observation can be done. If the jaundice subsides, no special treatment is necessary. However, if the jaundice does not subside or recurs after subsiding, or if the neonate’s mental state is poor, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly to check liver function and consider blue light therapy or oral medication treatment.
