Question
My child is much slower than children of the same age, but sometimes he is as quick as normal children. I was diagnosed with mental retardation when I was checked. I want to ask if poor semen quality can cause mental retardation?
Answer
Based on your description, poor semen quality may affect the ability to conceive, leading to a higher risk of infertility. Although you are currently pregnant, it is impossible to speculate or predict how semen quality issues might affect the child’s intelligence. If there is a significant impact, the embryo may miscarry on its own. There are currently signs of threatened miscarriage, and it is recommended to undergo progesterone therapy for fetal protection, and to avoid strenuous exercise and to rest appropriately. If the embryo develops normally in the future, it indicates that the problem is not serious, but regular prenatal checks and anomaly scans are still necessary.
