Question
What are the effective treatment methods for Down syndrome?
Answer
Down syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, is a congenital defect disease in children caused by chromosomal abnormalities. Currently, there is no effective treatment method. However, long-term patient education and special training can be implemented to stabilize the child’s functions. In addition, early use of oral medications such as vitamin B6, r-tyrosine, and folic acid may also be helpful for the child. For other associated malformations, corrective surgery can be performed.
