Question
How to treat pediatric allergic purpura?
Answer
Allergic purpura, also known as Henoch-Schönlein syndrome, is a systemic vasculitis that primarily affects small blood vessels. It is characterized by non-thrombocytopenic purpura, often accompanied by symptoms such as joint swelling, abdominal pain, hematuria, and proteinuria. This condition is most common in children aged 2 to 8 years, with boys being more affected than girls. Cases occur throughout the year, but are more frequent in spring and autumn. Although the prognosis for this disease is generally good, a few severe cases of children may die due to intestinal bleeding, intussusception, necrosis of the intestines, or neurological damage. Most patients will recover completely.
