Question
Newborn, less than a month old, diagnosed with Down Syndrome after examination. What should be done?
Answer
Down Syndrome can be categorized into three types based on chromosomal karyotype, with the standard and translocation types being difficult to distinguish in clinical diagnosis. The clinical manifestations of the mosaicism type can vary greatly due to the different proportions of normal cells, ranging from normal to typical as age increases, with intellectual development becoming increasingly evident, and motor growth and sexual development delayed. Approximately 30% of children have congenital heart disease and other malformations. Due to immune function issues, they are prone to various infections, and the incidence of leukemia is 10 to 30 times higher. If they live to adulthood, they often develop symptoms of senile dementia after the age of 30.
