Question

Hello, my child developed jaundice three days after birth, and the index was around ten during the check-up on the fourth day. We have been giving him medicine, but by the eighth day, the symptoms have not improved. What should I do now? Should I continue giving him the medicine or should I take him to the hospital for further examination?

Answer

Physiological jaundice usually appears 2 to 3 days after birth, reaches its peak between 4 to 6 days, and resolves spontaneously within 7 to 10 days. It is recommended to expose the baby to sunlight more and supplement fluids. If it is pathological jaundice, it is advisable to take the baby to the hospital for blue light therapy as soon as possible and avoid delays. Pathological jaundice can have a significant impact on newborns. Once abnormalities are detected, children should be taken to a regular hospital for examination immediately, and attention should be paid to the baby’s dietary condition.
