Question

My child is one month old and has been hiccuping frequently lately. How should I handle it?

Answer

If the child doesn’t have any other diseases or symptoms related to the hiccups, treatment is usually not necessary. Hiccups often stop on their own unless they last for 5-10 minutes. After the baby finishes drinking milk, holding the baby for a while, patting the child’s back, or gently massaging the abdomen can help prevent hiccups and regurgitation. However, if the child often hiccups and has a poor appetite, it may lead to frequent hiccups or vomiting.
