Question
How Severe is Neonatal Impetigo?
Answer
Neonatal impetigo can be contagious. Without proper disinfection and isolation measures, it may lead to an outbreak in obstetric or pediatric neonatal wards. Since neonates have not yet fully developed their skin defense mechanisms, they are prone to becoming breeding grounds for bacteria if proper hygiene is not maintained, which can lead to infection. If the infection area is small, local treatment should be considered. For cases with extensive lesions or severe systemic symptoms, sensitive antibiotics should be used for treatment. Neonatal impetigo is a common skin infection disease during the neonatal period, mainly caused by Staphylococcus aureus, and has become a common phenomenon.
