Question

Is rectal dilation a severe issue?

Answer

Based on the ultrasound results, rectal dilation was detected, and a barium enema examination was conducted one month ago, suggesting a possible diagnosis of congenital megacolon. A recent barium enema examination showed significant dilation of the rectum and distal sigmoid colon, along with extensive and tortuous colonic loops. For confirmed cases of congenital megacolon, surgical treatment is recommended. If the child is too young to withstand surgery, conservative treatment can be initially adopted, but ultimately, surgical removal of the lesion is necessary. The prognosis is usually good. It is suggested to opt for minimally invasive surgery for partial colectomy.
