Question
A colleague’s child has developed a red, swollen area and a slight bulge at the umbilical cord detachment site after the umbilical cord fell off. Sometimes, some liquid also leaks out. What medication should be used for the baby who has developed umbilical inflammation?
Answer
Lymphangitis is a bacterial infection at the umbilical stump, which can be classified into acute lymphangitis and chronic lymphangitis. Acute perianal cellulitis is an acute abscess of the perianal tissue. Chronic umbilical varicose veins are a chronic umbilical inflammation caused by irregular acute umbilical varicose veins, neonatal umbilical cord detachment, and long-term healing or unhealed wounds left by regional irritant foreign bodies. Typically, use a sterile cotton swab dipped in iodine to thoroughly disinfect the umbilicus, three to four times a day.
