Question

Can CT scans detect bile duct obstruction?

Answer

Bile duct obstruction can be caused by hepatitis or malformations of the bile ducts due to liver fibrosis. Diagnosis using color Doppler ultrasound or CT scan usually requires hospitalization. Bile duct obstruction must be treated promptly in the hospital. If not treated in time, it can lead to abnormal bile excretion, bile stasis, gallstones, liver cell bile damage, and liver necrosis. Observations of serum bilirubin dynamics, biochemical tests, liver function tests, bile acid quantification, bile duct imaging, and liver tissue pathology examination are necessary. CT scans may not always be clear.
