Question

My son is 8 years old, and he fell off a truck while playing last month on the 7th. The doctor at the hospital diagnosed him with a right frontal epidural hematoma and he was hospitalized for 9 days, currently showing no symptoms. I would like to ask the doctor at the hospital, does an epidural hematoma have no symptoms?

Answer

Epidural hematomas account for 20% to 30% of traumatic intracranial hematomas and are commonly seen as either acute or subacute hematomas. They are usually solitary and more commonly occur in conjunction with subdural hematomas at the point of impact. Patients most frequently affected are young adults aged 15 to 50 years. Subacute or chronic epidural hematomas are often associated with less severe trauma, with linear fractures at the point of impact leading to regional small hemorrhages that gradually form into hematomas.
