Question
What are the main manifestations and causes of infant precocious puberty?
Answer
Precocious puberty is primarily characterized by secondary sexual features such as breast development and weight gain. Infant precocious puberty generally has the following causes:
- Residual hormones in animals and plants. Animal feed additives contain hormones, and there are residual hormones in animal feed. When these products are consumed by children, they can also exert effects within their bodies. Additionally, off-season vegetables and fruits are often hormone-induced, and frequent consumption of such fruits is detrimental to children’s health.
- Environmental hormones. Detergents, pesticides, and plastics industry can release substances and their decomposition products into the environment, thereby producing a series of hormone-like pollutants in nature. If these pollutants are ingested by children, they can lead to abnormal development of reproductive organs and bones.
