Question

How should neonatal empyema be treated?

Answer

Empyema, a purulent abscess, is treated with regional anti-infection drugs. First, the regional skin damage is cleared, and the scabbed blisters are picked up. After infection, at least 10 to 14 days should pass, as the pathogens should have a certain degree of infectivity, necessitating isolation treatment. The possibility of further disease transmission is more of a concern. Neonatal extremity dermatitis is usually caused by a skin infection leading to acanthosis nigricans. It is recommended to administer intravenous antibiotics to prevent sepsis.
