Question
How to deal with a newborn’s hiccup?
Answer
If a baby suddenly starts hiccuping without any other diseases, it usually doesn’t require treatment. Typically, unless the attack lasts for 5 to 10 minutes, it will automatically stop for a while. After the baby drinks milk, you can hold the baby for a while, pat the baby’s back, or gently massage the abdomen to help expel gas. This can prevent the baby from hiccuping and spilling milk. However, if the baby often hiccups, has decreased appetite, weight loss, or frequently vomits, it should be taken to the hospital for a detailed examination.
