Question
If a newborn is found to have jaundice, what is the normal range of the jaundice values?
Answer
The normal range for neonatal jaundice is less than 12.9mg/dl (221umol/l) for full-term infants and less than 15mg/dl (257umol/l) for premature infants. If the baby is in good spirits, observation can be done first. Oral anti-jaundice medication can also be taken. If the jaundice has not subsided after 14 days, retesting is recommended. It is suggested to undergo relevant checks first.
