Hello, ABO blood type incompatibility hemolytic disease often occurs in mothers with type O blood and fathers with type A, B, or AB blood. However, not all infants born to O-type blood mothers will develop hemolytic disease. Some infants will, while others will not. Some symptoms may be mild, and others may be severe. This depends on the quantity of maternal antibodies, the extent of their binding with the fetal red blood cells, the strength of the A or B antigens, and the fetal compensatory hematopoietic ability.
