Question

What are the clinical manifestations of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome?

Answer

Neonatal respiratory distress syndrome may present with symptoms such as a lack of pulmonary surfactant, alveolar expansion, progressive respiratory difficulty, cyanosis, grunting, irregular breathing, intermittent respiration, pale or blue-purplish skin color, decreased muscle tone, flaring of the nostrils, and low respiratory sounds. Additionally, secondary pulmonary infections may also occur. It is recommended to seek treatment from a pediatrician and to follow medical instructions in using appropriate medications to promote a quick recovery. Hospitalization is typically required, and if the newborn has a strong resistance, there is a chance of discharge within one week.
