Question

What’s going on if a newborn doesn’t lift their head?

Answer

Not lifting the head may be a part of a newborn’s normal development, but if the baby still doesn’t lift their head after three months, it’s advisable to take them to the hospital for an immediate check-up and a trace element test to see if there is a calcium or vitamin D deficiency. Usually, it is due to calcium deficiency. Follow the local doctor’s advice to give the child vitamin D supplements to promote calcium absorption, and also expose them to more sunlight to promote vitamin D synthesis in the skin.
