Generally, newborns can lie on their stomachs within a few days after birth, but they cannot lift their heads voluntarily within a month; they can only struggle instinctively, turning their faces to one side. By the time they are two months old, babies can lift their heads and their chests slightly. By three months, they can do so quite steadily.
