Question

My baby was born recently, about a week old, and has been frequently experiencing vomiting after feeding lately. What should I do?

Answer

Newborn vomiting is primarily physiological. It is related to the anatomical position of the stomach and the dysfunction of the lower esophageal sphincter. After each feeding, use an upright patting back method to help burp, and then let the baby sleep after burping to avoid repeated vomiting. As children grow older, vomiting usually improves. Without other symptoms, there is generally no major concern. It is recommended to observe the baby more closely for any other discomfort symptoms, such as persistent eye mucus or worsening symptoms. If so, take the baby to the hospital for a check-up promptly.
