Questions

How long can a child with liver blastoma live? Can a pediatric liver blastoma be treated? The CT and color Doppler ultrasound basically confirm it as a liver blastoma. My child is just 3 and a half months old, and the tumor size is 5.6x4.6. The doctor said it is a malignant tumor. Can it be treated?

Answers

Pediatric liver blastoma is a malignant liver tumor originating from the liver’s embryonic germ tissue. It commonly occurs in infants under the age of 3. Clinical features include gradual enlargement of the abdomen, palpable mass in the upper abdomen, decreased appetite, weight loss, anemia, and jaundice in the later stages, as well as ascites. Diagnosis is made based on clinical manifestations and results from laboratory and auxiliary examinations. If the tumor is solitary, with a relatively small size and superficial location without extraperitoneal metastasis, surgical resection can be curative.
