Question
The baby has been showing jaundice symptoms for about ten days, and this phenomenon has been present since 15 days after birth. It has now been a full month and the jaundice has not subsided. When does neonatal jaundice usually disappear naturally?
Answer
The time for neonatal jaundice to disappear is not fixed and needs to be determined through skin jaundice tests or blood bilirubin level checks. If the jaundice index exceeds 14, timely blue light therapy and oral medication should be administered to reduce the level of jaundice and prevent the deterioration of kernicterus. Physiological jaundice usually subsides within a week after birth. If it is breast milk jaundice, it is recommended to temporarily stop breastfeeding for three days to observe whether the jaundice improves.
