Question

My baby is almost one month old, can I start to let the baby practice lifting its head at this time? As a new parent, I’m not quite sure.

Answer

Generally speaking, infants begin to form the physiological curve of their cervical spine around 3 months old, which is when they start to move their heads. By 6 months old, they begin to form the physiological curve of their thoracic spine, allowing them to sit up and roll over independently. Around 12 months old, they start to form the physiological curve of their lumbar spine, at which point they can start to stand and walk independently. Therefore, for a one-month-old baby, as they have not yet formed the physiological curve of their cervical spine, it is not suitable for them to practice lifting their heads.
