Question

A relative’s baby was just born less than a month ago and has a rough breathing sound, with slight coughing and fever. The baby often chokes while breastfeeding or drinking water. The hospital examination says the baby has neonatal pneumonia and needs to be hospitalized. How should post-infection care be provided for neonatal infectious pneumonia?

Answer

Neonatal infectious pneumonia includes both prenatal (intrauterine and delivery) and postnatal infections, which can be caused by viruses and bacteria. Early lung symptoms may not be apparent, and during the course of the disease, both lungs may have moist rales. Respiratory syncytial virus pneumonia may present with wheezing sounds, and auscultation of the lungs may hear wheezes. Nebulized inhalation, positioning drainage, regular turning, patting, and timely suctioning of mouth and nose secretions to keep the airways clear are recommended. Treatment should be under the guidance of a doctor.
