Question

I’ve heard that the Down syndrome screening can detect fetal abnormalities, but I’m always afraid of blood draws, and yet I can’t avoid it. I’m wondering how accurate is the Down syndrome screening? If it’s not very accurate, I don’t want to do it. I’ll just go with the 4D ultrasound check.

Answer

The Down syndrome screening is typically conducted within the first three to four months of pregnancy. It remains a very important examination program throughout the entire pregnancy process. Therefore, it is recommended to undergo a clinical Down syndrome screening. The accuracy of this test is relatively high. If the diagnosis indicates a high risk, there may be issues with the fetus’s development. If the test shows a low risk, most risks can be ruled out for fetal abnormalities. I suggest you consult with your doctor after the examination and review the results.
