Question
My child is experiencing seizures similar to those seen in epilepsy, and after searching online, I suspect it might be tic disorder. What exactly is tic disorder?
Answer
Tic disorder shares similarities with epilepsy and primarily affects children and adolescents. It is a condition characterized by vocal tics or one or more involuntary, repetitive, rapid, and motor twitches. In addition to the aforementioned symptoms, some children may also experience attention deficit, hyperactivity, or obsessive behaviors. Disorders that last at least two weeks but no more than a year are classified as transient tic disorders, while those lasting more than a year are considered chronic tic disorders.
