Question

My daughter’s tics have improved, but I want to ask whether the tics will still exist after the disease has recovered? What precautions should I be aware of?

Answer

After understanding the factors that cause tics, such as brain damage (e.g., birth injuries, asphyxia) or physical factors (such as blinking caused by conjunctivitis or trichiasis, and nasal inhalation and facial muscle twitching caused by upper respiratory infections), it can be found that tics may persist after these diseases are healed. These diseases often occur in children aged 3-10, most commonly between 4-7 years old, and may appear as early as 2 years old. The main clinical manifestation is simple motor tics, usually confined to the head, neck, and upper limbs, and in rare cases simple vocal tics. The duration of the twitching is usually not more than one year.
