Question

My child was born more than ten days ago and has a slight fever. I’m afraid it might be pneumonia, and my wife and I are very worried. What are the symptoms of neonatal pneumonia?

Answer

The symptoms of neonatal pneumonia are very different from those of older infants, especially for babies born within the first two weeks. Neonatal pneumonia often does not present with typical symptoms such as fever, coughing, and sputum production. Therefore, you need to observe your baby carefully. If he exhibits any of the following symptoms, you should be more vigilant and consider the possibility of neonatal pneumonia: refusing to drink milk or easily choking on milk, being listless, drowsy, vomiting white foam, having a low body temperature or no increase (usually between 35-36℃), even if the baby is strong, he may still have a fever.
