Question

What happens if a newborn has a high jaundice index?

Answer

Physiological jaundice usually appears 2-3 days after birth, peaks at 4-6 days, and subsides between 7-10 days. If the jaundice index is too high or appears at an abnormal time, it may be pathological and requires further examination and treatment. Treatment methods include blue light therapy and enzyme inducers. For physiological jaundice, it can be accelerated by feeding more frequently and increasing excretion.
