Question

Newborn disease screening issue. My baby was just born 2 days ago, and the doctor did a newborn disease check-up yesterday. One of the checks was TSH, and I don’t know what this test is, I’m very worried. I can understand everything else and there are no problems with it, just this one, please experts answer for me?

Answer

The TSH test in newborn disease screening is a type of thyroid function test used to screen for congenital hypothyroidism. The reported TSH value is 1.45, indicating normal screening results. If the TSH value is too high, it may suggest hypothyroidism, and further medical consultation, diagnosis, and treatment are required.
