Question

What is neonatal swallowing syndrome?

Answer

Neonatal swallowing syndrome is a condition where the stomach and lungs are filled with fluid, causing newborns to be unable to eat normally within the first few days after birth. Normally, this situation should resolve itself within one or two days after birth. For very small infants, medication treatment is usually not recommended; instead, observation and supportive therapy are adopted. If there is a mild brain hypoxia or hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, further treatment is required. It is advisable for parents to bring their child to a large hospital for detailed examination and treatment.
