Questions

Is newborn hearing screening accurate? What methods can be used to observe and protect a baby’s hearing?

Answers

We recommend closely observing a child’s response to various sounds on a daily basis, while also trying to avoid exposing them to noise. Be cautious when using ototoxic medications, and prevent children from catching colds or suffering head injuries. Most importantly, make sure to schedule regular check-ups at the hospital. The vast majority of children will have normal hearing. Even if hearing impairments are detected during the screening, early intervention and treatment can help children eventually integrate into mainstream society.
