Question
What are the reasons for failing a newborn hearing screening?
Answer
This situation generally suggests a re-examination after some time. Considering the child’s young age, if there was some secretion or meconium in the baby’s ears at birth, they might be fine, but during the testing process, signals usually do not occur. The on-site screening requires very strict selection of the testing environment: the environment should be relatively quiet, with noise not exceeding 40 decibels, ideally in an isolated room. If the infant does not cooperate, the screening may also fail.
