Question

New mothers are worried that sharing a blanket with their baby might lead to choking and want to know if newborns will show signs of struggling when they are choking.

Answer

In the case of newborns experiencing choking, due to their underdeveloped physical functions, they may not exhibit obvious struggle movements. Therefore, parents may not be able to detect it in time. For safety reasons, it is recommended not to let infants share blankets with adults but to use separate small blankets to wrap the baby, in order to reduce the risk of choking. For younger infants, the struggle movements during choking may be very subtle and difficult for parents to notice; while for slightly older infants, the strength of the struggle may be relatively greater.
