Question

My daughter is 8 years old, and in recent days, her ears have been a bit painful. Upon inspection, I found that the earwax is purulent and slightly yellow. Additionally, she has headaches and a fever. How should I treat my child’s middle ear inflammation with yellow discharge?

Answer

Antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications can be appropriately used, along with bacterial culture of ear secretions, and anti-inflammatory ear drops according to the examination results. If ear pain is the primary symptom, some painkillers may be recommended to relieve discomfort. If fever is present, fever-reducing medications can be given or immediate medical attention sought. In severe cases, surgery may be required to treat eardrum perforation. After recovery, it is suggested that the child engage in appropriate exercise to enhance immunity and prevent recurrence.
