Question

Can a hemangioma in the ear disappear on its own?

Answer

This depends on the type and size of the hemangioma. Hemangiomas can be categorized into true tumors and vascular malformations. As the name suggests, vascular malformations do not disappear on their own and will accompany the patient for life. Congenital true tumors may regress on their own, but the process is very slow, usually taking 5 to 10 years. Infants’ hemangiomas go through two rapid growth periods at 2 months and 6 months. During this growth phase, severe hemangiomas may also compress surrounding normal tissues and organs.
