Question
Recently, a patient reported frequent headaches with increasing pain intensity. After hospital examination, the diagnosis was infant hemangioma. What is infant hemangioma? How serious is it? Is the treatment difficult?
Answer
Hemangioma is a congenital developmental anomaly, with a higher incidence rate in female patients. For patients under 2 years old, due to the possibility of spontaneous regression, observation can be considered initially. If the lesion continues to expand after the age of 2, surgical treatment can be considered, but preparations for skin grafting are required first. Liquid nitrogen freezing treatment can also be adopted. It is recommended that detailed examinations be conducted at a hospital when the child is young, and treatment should be followed according to the doctor’s advice.
