Question

Patients who recently underwent surgery for congenital hemangioma have noticed an improvement in their physical condition and increased appetite. However, they have recently experienced symptoms such as weakness, discomfort during sleep, and dizziness with blurred vision, which may indicate a recurrence of the hemangioma. In this situation, how should one respond?

Answer

If recurrence symptoms are present, immediate examination is necessary. Once confirmed, it is recommended to opt for gamma knife treatment to increase the success rate of the therapy. Since hemangiomas do not have a complete capsule, there are multiple abnormal blood vessels surrounding them. During surgery, doctors can only identify the hemangioma with their eyes, and some abnormal blood vessels may be hidden within the surrounding muscle groups. Therefore, even if as much as possible is removed during surgery, there is still a possibility of residual blood vessels, leading to recurrence.
