Question
A three-month-old boy has recently been found to have redness and swelling at the tip of his penis, along with redness in the scrotal sac area. This may be due to a bacterial infection, especially common in infancy such as penis head and prepuce inflammation and urinary tract infection. How should it be properly handled?
Answer
If the foreskin of the baby can be flipped up, it should be cleaned regularly and encouraged to drink more water. When necessary, urine tests should be conducted and oral antibiotics considered. Since the baby’s skin is very delicate and sensitive to sweat and urine, especially in summer when sweating increases, the buttocks skin is often soaked in urine, making it prone to eczema or diaper rash. It is recommended to protect the skin, avoid using soap for cleaning, and keep the area dry.
