Question
My baby has eczema on his head, and after using medication, it has now formed scabs. I’m worried about scarring. How should I handle the baby’s eczema scabs on his head?
Answer
Eczema in infants is a skin condition caused by an inherited sensitivity to environmental allergens. Due to a genetic defect in serum C1 lipase inhibitor, there is increased vascular fragility and permeability, leading to neurovascular edema. Here are some prevention and treatment methods:
- Do not wash or scrub the eczema area with water, especially avoid using hot water and soap. You can use disinfected vegetable oil or beeswax oil instead.
- Avoid contact with silk, wool, and other fabric items and carpets.
- In terms of diet, try to identify foods that may cause allergies, such as if milk allergy is suspected, milk can be boiled for a period of time, and if protein allergy is suspected, only egg yolks can be consumed. The lactating mother should temporarily avoid foods like eggs, shrimp, and crabs.
- Go to a hospital for testing to identify allergens such as dust mites and pollen. Please consult a doctor for more detailed advice and treatment options.
