Question

Doctor, my child has increased muscle tone on the left side, walks with the toes of his left foot down, and has delayed language development, only able to produce single words or two-word phrases. Diagnosed with convulsive cerebral palsy, is there still a possibility of recovery for this condition?

Answer

Convulsive cerebral palsy is a common type of cerebral palsy, with symptoms that may include the feet pointing downwards during lifting, presenting a toe-standing posture, or both feet appearing to dance like ballerinas, even possibly crossing over to form a scissor-like gait. Additionally, patients may not smile, lift their heads, or open their fingers when held in the first 2-3 months; by 4-5 months, they may not roll over; at 8 months, they may not sit up, let alone grasp objects or put their hands in their mouths; intellectual development may lag behind that of normal children of the same age. Feeding may also be difficult, and they may have trouble suckling.
