Question

At seven months old, the baby has trouble sleeping soundly and keeps tossing and turning as if frightened. What symptoms are these?

Answer

External noise, an uncomfortable bed, or too strong light around may affect the baby’s sleep quality. The baby may also be physically uncomfortable, such as with colic. Massaging the baby’s lower abdomen in a clockwise direction can have some relief. Newborns should also be aware of vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D should be supplemented regularly in the latter part of life. If the mother did not supplement calcium or had a significantly insufficient vitamin D content during pregnancy, the baby may show symptoms of vitamin D deficiency early after birth, such as insomnia, and should quickly supplement vitamin D to alleviate symptoms.
