Question

I accidentally ran over a dead snake and lizard with my bike wheel while riding. There was blood everywhere around them, and then when I went through a whirlpool, some of the water splashed onto me. I’m worried because I fear that their blood might be on the wheel, and it could have splashed onto me as well. Could you please advise, doctor? Thank you.

Answer

There is no risk to you in this situation. Moreover, your skin has excellent defensive capabilities. Only if there are wounds or breaks on your skin that come into contact with contaminated blood might infection occur. Just make sure to clean off the blood promptly. In this case, there is no issue; you will not get an infection from touching the blood. The situation you described is an indirect contact, and there was no direct skin contact, so there is no problem at all; it will not lead to skin infection or poisoning. You can rest assured. No special treatment is needed.
