Question

When should children avoid vaccination?

Answer

When children are vaccinated, they should be cautious of the following contraindications: (1) Abnormal immune system: Patients with immune deficiencies, malignant diseases (such as malignant tumors, leukemia, lymphoma, etc.), and those undergoing immunosuppressive treatment, such as those using corticosteroids, alkylating agents, antimetabolites, or radiation therapy, should not receive live attenuated vaccines. (2) Acute infectious diseases: If a child has a fever or acute infectious symptoms, or if they have recovered from an acute infectious disease within less than two weeks, vaccination should be postponed. Vaccination during a feverish period may exacerbate fever symptoms and may mistakenly be considered as an adverse reaction to the vaccine, thereby affecting subsequent vaccinations. Children with neurological disorders: Such as uncontrollable epilepsy, infantile convulsions, postencephalitic sequelae, and progressive brain diseases should not receive vaccines containing pertussis antigens, Japanese encephalitis vaccine, and meningococcal vaccine.
