Question

What are the treatment options for mild amblyopia and strabismus? My child has been experiencing this condition for some time, and I am hesitant to give medication. Could you please provide some advice from a doctor?

Answer

In the treatment of pediatric strabismus, corrective glasses are first used to correct astigmatism and myopia, thereby improving vision. If there is amblyopia, it should also be treated, including conventional patching therapy, to promote the development of strabismus and improve stereoscopic vision, followed by surgical correction of strabismus. Strabismus refers to the incorrect alignment of the axes of the two eyes, which may deviate inward, outward, upward, or downward. In normal individuals, binocular vision should be correct and parallel. When observing objects, the image of the object should fall on the central fovea of both retinas, and then the brain’s fusion ability can combine the images seen by both eyes into one.
