Question

Our child has been blinking their eyes frequently for some time now, and as parents, we are very worried. We hope the doctor can give us some advice.

Answer

The most common reason for a child to frequently blink their eyes is inflammatory irritation, which could be due to symptoms such as keratitis or conjunctivitis caused by viral, bacterial, or chlamydial infections. In addition to increased blinking, symptoms may include itchy, red eyes, increased discharge, and tearing. It could also be due to congenital eyelid inversion or entropion, where the patient can gently pull the eyelid out to its normal position and use a bandage to hold it in place. It’s also possible that it’s caused by ADHD in children.
