Question
Hello, how should we supplement calcium for our baby? Are there any effective treatment methods? Please give us some advice from a doctor.
Answer
The absorption of calcium does not always align with one’s wishes: the more you supplement, the more you absorb. The amount of calcium absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract largely depends on the baby’s current calcium nutritional status, which is regulated by substances such as activated vitamin D and calcitriol in the baby’s body. Generally speaking, it is safer to supplement calcium through food than through medication; consuming normal food will not cause excessive calcium intake. Breast milk and formula milk should be the first choice for calcium supplementation in infants. For older babies, in addition to dairy products, foods such as soy products, shrimp shells, and fish meat can also be given to supplement calcium.
