Question
Hello, doctor, I would like to inquire if the iodophor at home that has expired for a month can still be used, or should it be thrown away instead?
Answer
It’s best not to use expired iodophor as it won’t achieve the desired disinfection. Additionally, iodophor should be replaced within a week after opening, otherwise, it won’t provide effective disinfection either. These disinfectants have expiration dates and should not be used past their expiry. Do not use expired iodophor as it may cause infection now that the ear is already inflamed. It’s recommended to buy new iodophor for ear disinfection and avoid using expired iodophor. Also, try to avoid getting water on the face when washing to prevent infection from worsening.
