Question
How should a child with strabismus be treated? Can farsighted glasses or bifocal glasses correct strabismus?
Answer
Not all strabismus cases require surgical treatment. For accommodative esotropia, wearing the appropriate farsighted glasses or bifocal glasses can correct the condition. If there is also a moderate to high refractive error, glasses for correction are usually necessary as well. Additionally, axis correction training can help restore binocular single vision and enhance accommodative ability, such as using axis correction training machines or wearing prismatic lens inserts. If amblyopia is present, training for amblyopia is also an essential part of treatment.
